Buffet Binge!: Minado in Long Island

?>

I originally come from the island that is long and the place that Billy Joel’s story songs have come to define.  So, after the sojourn from Manhattan my mother and I always like to hit up this spot:

This Japanese buffet has everything from an entire sushi section to the chicken teriyaki one row away.  The presentation is beautiful and the place is so clean it gives the five minute rule some validity.

Featuring the classic simple spicy tuna, Philadelphia roll, to the more exotic.  It has something for everyone and a pleasant decor to highlight the already calming ambiance. It works like a buffet so if you’re looking for a sit down service you may want to hunt elsewhere.

As you can see I mixed it up confining seaweed salad with a surprising delicious kale slaw. The mushroom salad was simple but delicious.
Their offerings go as far as beef short ribs that cut with a fork.  This is not your typical buffet faire and the quality of food was elevated.

One of my favorite take always from my experience is their green tea ice cream with you can opt to swirl with the vanilla.  Note my expert handling of the yogurt machine from the two weeks in high school I worked in a yogurt shop before I found out there was an opening at the pool.  I may not have spent too long in the food service industry but just enough time to perfect the fro yo aesthetic.  Can the Food Network have a competiton for that?

If you’re looking for a lunch or dinner out that’s both delicious and has an excellent selection.  Look no further, Minado is the perfect place to please every member of the family as long as every member of the family wants Japanese inspired cuisine.  Hey-there’s always the ice-cream.

Megan

Born in Virginia and raised on the mean streets of Garden City, Long Island, I’ve learned to appreciate any type of cuisine from a late night burrito and tatcho’s to a tasting menu and wine pairing. I’m a bit of an adventurer when it comes to food and am always up for an eating challenge where I can find one. I may or may not have eaten sixteen chili tacos to become “The Taco Queen” of a small hole in the wall Mexican eatery. I also couldn’t help myself from ordering whale in Oslo (please don’t tell Green Peace) and can’t resist a zany menu choice. A writer and performer, I like to pair my meals with a good play and you can find my reviews on New York Theatre Guide. Baking is a guilty pleasure and I’m constantly preparing confectionaries with surprises inside. I hope one day to compile all my recipes into one called “Get Stuffed”.I’m looking forward to the next culinary adventure I carve out and sharing them with you. I may just need to create an entire series devoted to “did they really just make this Asian/Mexican/Korean/Italian fusion a food truck?”. Cheers!
